On June 17th I found nesting Least Terns at the sand ridge just north of Sand
Slough.
I have visited the area several times since. And James Wheat et. al. and bpb
have also visited the site.
I again visited the site today (7/24/20) and saw 4 Least Terns. I walked out
into the sand ridge for the first time since my original sighting.
I was occasionally swooped at. I did see at least one carrying a minnow.
I have hesitated to post my visits due to the unusual nature of Least Terns
nesting in Henderson Co.
Many of my visits I hid from eBird output.
I have now “unhid” the sightings.
Below are the visits I made to check on the Least Terns.
Several of my visits had mediocre shots. One fantastic shot was shared with me,
but I no longer have it, nor remember who to credit.
