Well you can clearly see that the fledged owlet's "business end" is fully functional and ready to take on anything!

I think I read years ago that the talons of youngsters can be used to climb back up into trees if they end up on the ground.

Subject: [birdky] Great Horned Owlets

We arrived home, in the Sunday wee-hours, after ten days away. I went out early to check on the owlets and found only one looking back at me. I had half expected one or both of them to be out of the nest but could not see the second one anywhere, nearby, where they’ve typically been in past years, after leaving the cavity. By last evening I had concluded that it must’ve been a meal for a coyote or Red-tail and we were only going to see one of them fledged, this year. That theory was reinforced, this evening, when I still could only see one set of sullen eyes looking back from the cavity. So, as we were finishing our supper at dusk, we were astonished to see a large owlet chambering along a limb of the post oak tree that shades the house in our south yard. It was in plain view from where we sat.  This big oak is at least 200 yards from the nest cavity and across Schochoh Road.  I added photos to today’s eBird list, taken from our breakfast nook window and linked here. One is the owlet that is still in the nest cavity, taken before we saw the other one near the house. Obviously, they are more mobile than we realize, at this still-fuzzy stage.
