Melissa and I went to check on the Black-necked stilts this afternoon. Just after the RR crossing on highway 94, Melis came to a quick stop. She noticed a hundred plus Bank Swallows nesting in the side of the sand bank. We had not seen any in this location until today. At Open Pond the water is still flowing and the following birds were observed: Great Egret Great Blue Black-bellied Plover - 1 non breeding plumage Semipalmated Plover - 1 Killdeer Black-necked Stilt - 3 (one still on nest site) Least Sandpiper - 1 Pectoral Sandpiper - 1 Ring Billed Gull - 1 Least Tern - 30 + Bank Swallow Cliff Swallow Lake # 9 American White pelican - 1 Tree Swallow Hap & Melissa Murray, KY **************Gas prices getting you down?
