4/11
Long Point Unit, Reelfoot -- extensive shorebird habitat, but not much of it
is mudflats
Day started windy and raw, which probably kept #s and sightings down.
* 2 great egrets
* 500+ pectoral sandpipers (wouldn't be surprised if there were 3 times that
many)
* 2 solitary sandpipers
* 1 dunlin (why only one?)
* both yellowlegs, but no peeps
* 1 ruby-throated hummingbird

Land Between the Lakes
* 6 osprey at Honker Lake (5 soaring, 1 on nest)
* spring arrivals included:  n. parula, yellow-throated warbler, white-eyed
vireo, L. waterthrush, n. rough-winged swallow
* 2 female red-br. mergansers about 5 feet from shore at sailboat marina
* 50 or so black-crowned night-herons below Barkley Dam. Most were lined up
almost shoulder-to-shoulder at the boat ramp on the east side.
* Forster's and Caspian terns at the Kuttawa overlook.

Peabody WMA.  Sinclair Unit.
* light-phase rough-legged hawk; S2
* vesper sparrow; S2
* osprey at Ash basin, but zero shorebirds
-- all the remaining sightings were at the end of S5, and at the end of the
day --
* marsh wren, singing
* 1 Am. bittern, "singing" in flight and then in reeds; 7:03 pm
* 1 Am. white pelican
* 1 sedge wren; singing 7:25 pm
* 1 grasshopper sparrow; singing 7:30 pm
* Henslow's sparrows; 7:35+ pm. At least 7 different singers, all but one
on lake side of S5.
