ROSEATE SPOONBILL

A juvenile, first spotted near sunset sitting in the top of a cypress, which
flew to the water's edge after an adult Bald Eagle claimed the treetop. There
were 600-700 Great Egrets on roost in the willows lining the eastern side of
the lake, but the spoonbill was not associating with them. The bird then flew
south toward Phillippy, Tennessee. I was able to relocate it at the Phillippy
pits feeding with Great Blue Herons. Both Roseate Spoonbills and Great Blue
Herons regularly feed after dark as well as during the day. Thanks to Tom for
posting the report last night.

I was unable to locate the spoonbill this morning, and believe the best chance
for seeing this bird would be to check the area the last couple of hours before
dark.

Also present at Lake 9 were at least 50 Little Blue Herons and a Stilt
Sandpiper in addition the shorebird species present in the upper bottoms.
