Nice! I have been wondering about an eagle report at Cherokee. Someone (a
non-birder) described seeing one around there recently, and they were thinking
after looking it up that it was a Golden Eagle. I have been wondering if there
is really a Golden Eagle around there, or if they saw a juvenile Bald Eagle,
and mistook it for a Golden, simply because its head was brown. Did the Eagle
you saw have a white head? That would help us know if they saw the same eagle
as you did, or a different one.

My fiancée and I decided to get out an enjoy a hike through Cherokee Park on
this cold, sunny afternoon. As we walked up the last hill to the Cherokee
tennis courts at approximately 1:30 we had the pleasant surprise of seeing a
Bald Eagle fly directly over the tennis courts. It caught a thermal in the
distance and glided upwards providing great views for the next few minutes.
It’s the first time I’ve seen an Bald Eagle in Cherokee Park.
