I spent the morning birding the Drakes Creek (DC) area of Simpson Co., east
of Franklin and the afternoon at Barren River Lake State Park (BRL)in Barren
Co. It was a delightful day, with several interesting birds observed
including 15 species of warblers.
Warblers:
Tennessee Warbler (15+) DC, (10+) BRL
Nashville Warbler (1) first fall female, DC
Northern Parula (1) first fall male, DC
Yellow Warbler (2) one adult male!, one first fall female, both DC
Chestnut-sided Warbler (3) first fall females, BRL
Magnolia Warbler (7) DC, (5) BRL
Yellow-rumped Warbler (several) DC, BRL
Black-throated Green Warbler (10+) DC, (7) BRL
Blackburnian Warbler (1) first fall female, BRL
Pine Warbler (1) singing, around golf course BRL
Palm Warbler (1) BRL
Bay-breasted Warbler (2) BRL
Black-and-White Warbler (3) one adult fall male, all BRL
Northern Waterthrush (1) DC
Common Yellowthroat (3) DC
Also observed:
Black Vulture (22) Barren River Lake dam (Allen Co.)
Osprey (2) one each DC, BRL
Lesser Yellowlegs (1) DC
Yellow-billed Cuckoo (1) DC
Tree Swallow (20+) DC
Northern Rough-winged Swallow (2)
Barn Swallow (1)
House Wren (1) DC
Marsh Wren (1) close-up view! DC
Golden-crowned Kinglet (1) BRL
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (2) BRL
Philadelphia Vireo (1) DC
Yellow-throated Vireo (1) BRL
Lincoln's Sparrow (4) all one bush, DC
Swamp Sparrow (5) DC
