A Red-necked Grebe was seen on the Ohio River near Towhead Island this morning. The grebe flew in as we were scanning the river and landed close to the Indiana side. It stayed only a few minutes before it took off at the approach of barges. It flew up river and we followed it as far as we could with our binoculars. We drove up the river stopping at several spots on the river hoping to relocate it but without success. Other then the grebe there were only a few cormorants, two Mallards, and a Mute Swan of unknown origin on the river. The river was up with much debris. The gates at the dam were open and no rocks were exposed at the Falls of the Ohio.
