What a difference a day makes! Yesterday there were very few birds to be found on the trail. Today we found a beautiful blue-winged warbler near the start of the path. Both orchard and Baltimore orioles had returned as well as warbling vireos. These three species build their nests along the trail. A green heron, a male wood duck, and blue-winged teal were on or near the lake. Bluebirds, gnatcatchers, and thrashers were busy feeding and singing as we moved through the area. The little pond behind St. Mary Academy off Chamberlin Lane yielded four species of shorebirds this morning - greater yellowlegs, spotted sandpiper, semipalmated plover, and, of course, killdeer. Meadowlarks, horned larks, savannah sparrows are seen and heard in the fields surrounding the pond. Very exciting time to be birding. Happy days of spring, Pat Bell Jane Bell Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== When posting on BIRDKY, please close posts with your first and last name and your address (city or county). * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To post on BIRDKY, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS website at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos/default.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS Photo Page to view photos of birds recently sighted in Kentucky: http://www.flickr.com/groups/kentucky_ornithological_society/pool * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison.
