I spent the day on the Ohio River yesterday (March 6) between Maysville and Vanceburg. I was looking for concentrations of black ducks but managed to see lots of other ducks in some pretty high numbers. The highlights were 13 red-necked grebes and 187 white-winged scoters. The lowlight was there were no long-tailed ducks and almost no gulls. The number of divers was much higher than I generally see on this stretch of river.
