As reported lately by Mark Bennett, the Black-necked Stilts are gone, but I believe Mark's Scaup was the female Ring-necked Duck that's been there all summer. I have pictures. I also saw many young Mallards and several young Wood Ducks. Everything except one Mallard looked big enough to fly. Shorebirds included scores of Killdeer, 3 Least Sandpipers and a Spotted Sandpiper. A Horned Lark ran along where ducks swam the last time I was there. A squeaky young Red-tailed Hawk flew overhead. In the road on the trip over and back I saw 2 Gray Squirrels, a rabbit, a chipmunk and a Wild Turkey. Earlier this morning I saw a Yellowthroat singing on a power line over a neighbor's overgrown yard. They don't often leave cover.
