Debby and I drove to Bowling Green, today, which took us out Sulphur Spring
Church Road, east of Schochoh (Logan into Simpson Counties). We saw two
Kestrels on the wires about a half mile out from Schochoh and then another five
in the ~six miles to the Sulphur Spring Creek. All but one were on the
roadside utility wires. Two more were visible from the house for most of the
day, also on utility wires.
I counted seven Red-tails from home before sunrise, this morning, and spotted
the first one in the very-early light because of its awkward movement, as it
was trying to perch in a field-edge cherry tree while clutching a vole with one
foot. I wonder if the local fields have produced an especially large crop of
voles, this year?
