The Russell County Bird Club conducted their January Field Trip to Corn Valley, Elk Garden and Mountain Road on January 17th. Despite the frigid temperatures we were able to find 41 species. The highlight of the trip was an Eastern Screech Owl spotted by Peggy Herbert. I have attached a photograph. As you can see, we all had great looks. A delicious lunch was served at Jerry and Jane Thornhill's residence. There was was also a surprise birthday party held for Dave Worley with a birthday cake by Laverne Hunter and several age appropriate giftswer presented to Dave. The participants were: Dave Worley, Diana Worley, Fred Martin, Janice Martin, Ed Talbott II, Mary Talbott, Roger Mayhorn, Linda Mayhorn, Don Carrier, Bob Montgomery, Peggy Herbert, Jerry Thornhill, Jane Thornhill, Laverne Hunter, Tom Hunter.
