Tech Campus 1-9-09 Kent Davis, Fenton Day, Barry Kinzie, Mike Smith, and I drove down to Va. Tech in Blacksburg to see an Ash-throated Flycatcher that Tom Wieboldt found a couple of days ago. The bird had been seen in the vicinity of Burrus Hall and Derring Hall. After splitting up and searching for a little more than an hour, we located the bird in front of Burrus Hall around 12:30pm. All fieldmarks were observed well. The bird stayed near the stone walls of the building, and appeared to be catching insects. Burrus Hall is the administration bldg. and is located roughly in the center of the campus opposite the drill field. According to the "Gold Book", this is the first record of this species in the Mountains and Valleys region of Virginia. Mike Purdy Roanoke, Va.
