We've been a Supporter School since they started the program. Our head of
school felt it was important to be involved from day one.
I could argue either way about it being a beneficial program. On the one hand
we gain traction with the community and receive support and training. On the
other hand, the resources are free on their (unwieldy) website, the 'training'
is usually an overview of how to find things on their website, and we find
ourselves needing to modify most aspects of their curriculum and parent
education anyway.
As librarian I originally took ownership of teaching digital citizenship,
attending all CSM training/events, organizing parent tech education, and
offering tech support. Now that we (finally) have a technology integration
specialist, we share ownership of the program. This year we both became CSM
Certified Educators and Certified the school. It certainly looks impressive and
helps the community recognize that we are doing all we can to offer an
effective Digital Citizenship Program. Sometimes I am frustrated that programs
I built are called "Common Sense Media," however at the end of the day, I'm
grateful that I'm at least making the attempt and pursuing due diligence to
educate students in online safety, ethics, and respect.
Again, I could argue either way as to whether the program is truly beneficial.
The "branding" seems to impress the community, however we ultimately end up
creating/modifying all the resources to suit our particular needs. Please let
me know if you'd like further, more in-depth, details and I apologize that my
findings are somewhat inconclusive.

We are considering becoming a Common Sense Media supporter school, and I am
wondering if any of you who are currently members would be so kind as to share
reflections on and/or benefits of the experience? Also, does this program
"live" with the library, with the tech department, with a mix of both (or
perhaps, your departments are mixed themselves), or otherwise?
