Hi,
This is an image of M101 (also known as the Pinwheel Galaxy). It is a
face-on spiral galaxy about 21 million light years away in the constellation
Ursa Major. It is a large galaxy with a diameter of about 170,000 light
years. By comparison, the Milkyway galaxy is about 100,000 light years in
diameter. It is estimated that M101 has over a trillion stars.
The data for this image was taken over a 13-month period. The luminance data
was taken last May and the RGB was taken in June of this year.
Comments and suggestions appreciated.
