I agree with John Thompson 100% but I would like to add to his list. A
good computer and all the software requirements.
My suggestion: Look into wide-field astrophotography first.
No telescope or expensive mount to purchase. Just a good camera which will
serve you if you want to continue with the hobby. It will also introduce
you to the software processing requirements and techniques which is a huge
part of the hobby.
You can move slowly from there.
