It is definitely Kaspersky that is giving me grief. I had a pair of eyes by
and the message was that it was blocking the audio just like the
conferencing program. Only this time I couldn't get jaws to read the message
at all.
The window said something like, audio blocked, then gave options such as
allow, block and the key was a check box to make it take one or the other
action all the time. I had him check that box and then click allow. The
funny thing is, I've been using Reaper on that computer for some days now
without problems. I obviously hit something when making the conference
program to work that made it question this audio program too. So far I am
not a fan of Kaspersky. Grin. .
I will play in it some more when I am up to the challenge again.
I have never used any other screen reader. I've been using jaws since 1989
back in the good old DOS days. Yep, I'm an old doggy. I have been hearing a
bit about NVDA lately. There is at least one person also taking this course
that uses it. He told me that NVDA does sometimes work better in programs
over jaws. I was telling a friend in the UK about NVDA and he asked me if it
had a magnifier to increase the size of the print? He is still able to read
the screen some. I think he could be using Navigator. Do you know if it
does? He can't afford or won't afford jaws.

There are a lot of possible variables to your situation.
Regarding Reaper's inability to load, have you tried loading it with another
screen reader to see if you might be able to read the screen and possibly
detect an error message? I've never used JAWS with Kaspersky but I have used
it with NVDA, with a reasonable amount of success when using NVDA's object
navigation commands.
It's hard to say whether Kaspersky is responsible for slowing down your
performance with Outlook 2016. Kaspersky does have email scanning
capabilities and you could go into the settings and disable all of the
program's email features to see if performance improves. The settings app is
somewhat to reasonably accessible using NVDA, although some aspects of it
are very tricky to use and it may take some time and patience to master it.
In particular, some of the sliders contained within the settings app don't
appear to be adequately labeled.
I recently wrote a detailed review of Kaspersky's accessibility with NVDA.
It's certainly not intended to be a users' guide but it may give you some
tips on navigating the program if you're new to it. If you haven't already
