Well, sort of. I've done it, but s t r a n g e things happen -- such as a bevelled plaque effect behind white type retains the bevel borders but not the fill, so you have to grope around to find the white text on a white background and apply a colour.
So perhaps we can say that OOo opens a *.docx the way a 2 in nail opens an egg -- it's possible if done carefully but disaster always lurks nearby.
