Well Michael (Lewis),

Perhaps that's why the ABC News Web site almost never credits its
authors (and its sources apart from its pictures).

This is a matter (the total failure of that site to credit the sources
of its textual content) that I raised in an E-mail to the ABC's own
Media Watch, back on August 19, when I wrote:

Why does the ABC News Web site almost never credit sources?

With the exception of some 7:30 report articles and the like, sourced
from ABC program content, there is practically no acknowledgement
of authorship of any article on <http://abc.net.au/news/>.
No AAP recognition. Nothing.

Why not?

Please ask them for me.

Too often, news Web sites rehash other people's stories without giving
due credit to the reporters / authors and photographers / illustrators.

The Fairfax (Age / SMH) Web sites are notorious for this. Wherever
an SMH story is recycled for the Age site, due credit is not given, not
that I use those sites any longer, due to their lack of open Web
standards support, invasive cookies and an insistence on subscribing.
It's far easier, quicker and more usable to simply buy the paper.

But, maybe, the ABC's (?) reports are only that clumsy once in a
blue moon. ;-)

... if only.

Cheers,

Michael

Michael Granat draws our attention to an ABC news item:

Am I the only one to be appalled by the poor standard of writing in this
=3D
piece?

(No, Michael, not yours!)
