Hi Austechers.

In searching for a tool to help all of you using a Windows PC, early this afternoon I visited a system administrator / PC builder friend of mine to ask his opinion.

He highly recommended CCleaner for use on Windows XP. He then showed me how it worked on his PC and it does a very good cleanup of system clutter, reviving your PC and removing private information as you wish. (You can easily configure what it does and doesn't fix or touch through a file explorer style list of item / cleanup task check boxes.)

It also features a particularly effective automated registry cleanup tool.

While not as comprehensive as the very affordable commercial tool Iolo System Mechanic, which I recommended earlier, CCleaner is a remarkably fine tool in its own right, especially for free. Of course you are welcome to donate to its developer if you like the tool, which entitles you to receive the latest CCleaner updates before they are available on its Web site.

So, if you have executable file download and local PC administration privileges, do give this tool a try.

(In particular, I am hoping that it will help Ana Young with her software woes at this time. Also, some time ago, Christine Kent asked about a budget but effective PC optimiser tool, so here it is Christine.)

See: http://www.ccleaner.com/ for more.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Micky G
