Hi Allison,

Yes, you can do this with Audacity. Each time you want to record a new track "alongside" another one, open the project menu (in Audacity 1.2.x) or track menu (in Audacity 1.3.x), and click on either "new audio track" or "add new track", and then record. (Press the 'r' key to start recording, press the space bar to stop recording.)

In order to recored one track alongside and in time with what you've already recorded, you first need to set one or two preferences. Preferences is control+p and make sure audio i/o is open in preferences. Tab down to and make sure the following two items are checked:

play other tracks while recording new one

and

Software playthrough - play new track while recording it.

Then click on the okay button to save these new preferences.

Now load your karioki file into Audacity, open the project or track menu, select click on new track, and recortd your singing.

Press the space bar to listen to what you've recorded. To hear what you've recorded over and over, press the 'l' key (for loop play).

Hi!
I sing. Basically, I'd like to either record myself singing acapella, or somehow record myself singing to a karaoke track. I realize that in this case, the two tracks will probably have to be mixed together.
