Basically you need to split the text in half along the length and make 
bottom segment darker graduation than the top unfortunately you'll 
also need to allow an inset border around the text (which without a 
contour tool is very difficult).

If you have image outliner then try using a thick border around the 
text save as a bitmap and use image outliner to create a smaller 
thinner letter, divide that in half with intersect and add graduation 
to suit

You could of course edit each character by hand and clone duplicates.
