a collective initiative for comparison, interpretation and emphasizing .gif-art in bulgaria
the modern understanding of art crawls a very broad and difficultly comprehensive creative spectrum. relatively new and rapidly growing area in this heterogeneous field is the internet art (or so-called net art), and animated. gif images are an interesting unit in net art, to which we would like to draw particular attention with this specific initiative launched.
with this call we both aim to provoke interest in an atypical for local art environment project and at the same time to examine the acquaintance of the audience with this form of art and its representation. the main objective is to generate a quality online album with works of artists from bulgaria, which – consequentially – to be presented in contemporary art oriented exhibition spaces in the country.
selection of authors and ideas will be carried out by an independent team of bulgarian and foreign artists/researchers in the field of net art. as the project is investigative and researching, a fixed creative theme is not set. a summary will be made after the completion of the open call and determining the participating works.
eligibility: artists of bulgarian origin and those residing permanently in the country are welcome to participate. submit your .gif’s (max 20 pieces) at gif@xxxxxxxx till 1 oct. escort them with a brief info about yourself. between 10 and 20 oct. results of the selection will be made available for the public.
what follows: development of an online archive which itself puts the discussion about .gif and its interpretation as an object of art. thereafter, we will continue with the public presentation of works and promotion of the topic.
