I would follow Alan's advice and run Reporter - I have found several
Boot problems on other RISC OS machines in the past. If
you are not sure about running it there is an excellent procedure
written by the Wakefield club found at...

I have installed !Reporter and it reports a couple of screens full of
"Not enough stack to call filing system" followed by
**Error**
Error : &00000414
Message: Not enough stck to call filing system
** WimpError ** from unknown task

The error message is presumably displayed at this point, but the Boot
process does not appear to be halted, but continues.
Before the pages of "Not enough stack to call filing system" where at
least a page of attempts to Boot !Snapper, which is currently in Apps.
A manual run of !Snapper which was showing the default App sprite
rather than the bespoke one, produced the same error. Deleting it and
replacing with another copy I had seems to have cured the problem. The
version of Snapper I have now installed is 1.24. I have not checked
whether that is the current version, nor do I know what version I
deleted. Sorry about that.
Anyway thanks for the advice which has enabled me to solve the problem
