I still have the problem I have had since getting the ARMx6.
READs (not write) from LanMan98 of large files are horrendously slow.
LanMan is not a viable alternative as it has problems reading certain
files into OPro, and with deeply nested directory structures, with
LanMan98 does not have.
Have you tried Sunfish instead of Lanman[98]?

Sunfish is Alex Waugh's NFS client for RiscOS, and I find it
completely reliable for both reads and writes to my Synology NAS.
One Sunfish advantage over Lanman98 with the NAS (which can talk both
NFS and Samba (SMB)) is that Sunfish has no problem with reading back
items where my RiscOS filenames used characters that Windows (ie,
Samba) turns out not to like.
As for speed, I have not noticed any problems for either reads or
writes between the ArmX6 and the NAS. I presume that statement would
apply to any Linux machine as well. That's using Sunfish; I can't
speak about Lanman98 speed problems because I didn't use Lanman98
enough with the NAS, and I haven't used Lanman(non98) at all.
