selphy hardware is cmy only, no k afaik however most Cups datapaths only
reliably support rgb, and that is usually how rasterrs are usually fed to
the print system.
there have been a bunch of issues with selphy support, do a web search.
to profile my Selphy about 10 years, I printed several cards, splitting the
target. The improvement over the default rendering on the Mac was visible
... to a color specialist.

Colorants of a printer are orthogonal to the color model used to
create a profile. I'd suggest using an RGB model for your first

BTW, "RGB/CMYK device/printer" at above mentioned docs is meant to be
"RGB/CMYK [color model] device/printer". So if a driver allows you to
choose one, then your hardware printer may be [represented as] both RGB
and CMYK color mode device. Use RGB color model if you don't know *why*
you should use CMYK color model.
