Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!

HALELLUJAH! I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY LOGGED INTO THE VANCOUVER COMMUNITY NET AS
MY
ISP WITH ARACHNE.

Many thanks to those of you who contributed suggestions for accomplishing
that
task. Special thanks to Glenn McCorkle, whose login script almost, but not

quite worked at VCN and to Eric who made a number of helpful comments.
Many
thanks also to Ray Andrews whose ancient VCN login script came close to
working.

Finally, my whole hearted thanks to Christopher Chansamone, a volunteer on
the
help line at VCN, (not a member of the Arachne List) who went out on the
weekend and downloaded a copy of Arachne 190, then configured it for VCN,
successfully logged in to VCN, and then emailed me a copy of his working
script.

Ironically, Christopher's login script was just very slightly different
from
Ray Randrew's script and Glenn McCorkle's Script.

After receiving Cchristopher's login script, I re-configured Arachne
1.90-387
from scratch,in the same way Chris had done and succeeded in running
Arachne
with VCN as my ISP.

I am going to ask Michael to give Christopher a registered key to Arachne
in
return for his invaluable help in configuring Arachne for VCN, which will
likely make it just a little easier for the next Arachne user who attempts
to
use VCN as his ISP.

IMMEDIATELY BELOW IS A COPY OF CHRISTOPHER CHANASMONE'S EMAIL AND VCN LOGIN

SCRIPT.

Hi Brian Murphy,
Sorry for taking so long to reply. I got a chance to test out Arachne
myself.
I used the PPP wizard and I pasted the arachne.cfg it created for me below.
I
recommend deleting Arachne and then reinstalling it so you have new
configuration files.

Using the PPP wizard, I entered the modem's gstring, selected dial tone,
enterted VCN's phone number (604-638-0189), entered my username and
password,
selected dynamically assign IP, and entered VCN's nameserver as
207.102.64.23
and 207.102.64.3.

I don't recommend copy and pasting the configuration directly because of
the
modem specific settings.

;This is ARACHNE.CFG for Arachne version 1.6+
;If you want to use Arachne on PC with CPU 486+ you should start here.
;(tested on AMD K5/133). You should have really fast video card for this.
;This configuration file can be completely controled from Arachne
