Well Gang,
Really a change of pace. We have finished the dry wall demolition so I took it
easy and went to the 11:00 mass at the KofC. To my Surprise , Cardinal DeNardo
said the mass for our parish, community and Houston. He did one last night at
Spring, TX where another church was wiped out. There were about 600 packed
into the hall. We had fully armed Air Force MP's outside the door, they have
been here in Dickinson...... must have been for the Cardinal. Incredible strong
speaker and just the right thing we needed . With the devastation, people who
had nothing any more, standing, sweating, fanning with paper plates, silent
listening to the Cardinal speak of sacrifice and redemption... no noise,
totally silent. I cry just thinking about it and trying to write tonight. I
have been weepy a few times recently
That was the first part... then back to the street and house with a different
set of eyes, emotions, etc. Hot, sweaty, but the frustration was gone. It was
time to step up and get going. So I waited and waited and waited for the team
to come back for remediation,. Would we believe we have five massive
dehumidifiers and 50, that's right 50 huge fans running at the same time... we
blew a circuit breaker and could not reset, It is like living on a military air
base....impossible to work, think, and more sweating. At mass I was asked by the
Dickinson Mayor, Julie Masers to speak to all the Dickinson first responders at
7P so I need to get ServePro out of house
.
Finally got back to Jeannie's, took a shower, some deodorant and put on my BIHO
Harvey "Beat the Hell Out of Harvey" T-shirt. The Texas Aggies made the shirts
and Hayley, at Texas Tech, a former Aggie got some on her way to Jeannie's. So
I put on the sweaty BIHO Harvey sweat shirt I had worn all day in 95+ temps
and went to do a motivational talk to the first responders at the 'Dickinson
Police Department Ready Room. Mayor Julie Masters had asked me at Mass to talk
that evening, and frankly it was a great opportunity to say thanks to a lot of
people who
performed the rescues, housed and fed, transported, etc. Made me wonder why in
the hell they asked me..., they were the heroes. At times tough to talk but I
did...I made honorary Dickinson Police. They do so much and are so humble on
what they do.
Had two good drinks of Wild Turkey and should have a good sleep tonight
Time to charge on, Failure is Not an Option. Tomorrow meet the FEMA adjuster at
9A, organize house upstairs and downstairs in the now naked rooms. Almost feels
like our early days camping, where walls were not an option. I hope to move
back later in the week if we can get some doors with locks... all wood so
swollen they wont close.
Sitreps probably fewer from here on. Carmen videotaped the Cardinals homily...
may send a couple segments later on.
Cheers, Gene
