Hello all, The nurse practitioner told my mom today "Your husband is famous." My mom thought she said that because he's on the internet for his running accomplishments but the NP said "No, he's famous in the hospital." He is doing so well. He walked with a walker on his own today - tired quickly but wow. He continues to talk - has apologized for "letting people down." He says "It's hard, but it's okay." He asked my mom yesterday "When did you discover me?" We only respond to his questions, don't give him unsolicited information. A friend asked if he felt pain and he said his chest hurt, so my mom told him he had some broken ribs. He's constantly telling people he loves them and likes to hug and kiss. He's incredibly gracious with his caregivers - he has sitters and one of them told my mom a little while ago "Honey, he can see AND hear." One time my dad took a 5 hour nap during one of his hundred mile runs. He awoke and took off to everyone's amazement - passing people left and right. People started to make bets on how well he would finish (he was way, way back in the pack when he woke up). The highest place anyone bet on was 4th. He finished 5th. This is not a man to be underestimated. At one of his triathlons years ago the athletes were listed by weight - my mom overheard someone say "190! (my dad's weight) - that one's gonna die." He won that triathlon. His physical strength is diminished at this point, and it will take a strong spirit and all of the people that love and care for him cheering him on for him to recuperate. It will happen. He may have physical deficits, but I believe his spirit will be stronger than ever. Thank all of you for reading my e'mails. I know the care, thoughts and prayers of those that don't even know my dad make a difference. Holly
