Hardly surprising when you consider that she wrote one of the biggest selling songs in country music history with The Dixie Chicks' 'Wide Open Spaces'." "The success of her songwriting abilities has given her the artistic freedom to write, perform, and record with few constraints. With a whole carload of new songs and the inspiration of her new CD, Susan Gibson is eager to take her contemplative, pop-folk poignancy and sense of humor on the road." "Susan's solo show remains boots-and-jeans down to earth, as unpretentious as a puppy. Her songs are often autobiographical and sometimes poke gentle fun at herself." If you are unfamiliar with Susan and her work, a full biography and discography can be found on-line at: www.susansongs.com Thank you Susan Gibson, K.T. Gardner of The Nancy Fly Agency and Rev. Greg McDonell. Restoring CHIP Reductions set in by the 78th legislature in children's health care insurance policies (CHIP) has caused much concern especially when Texas is the leading nation in uninsured children which in turn skews the statistics for all of the U.S. To do your part in helping to restore much needed funding to this program, action kits are available from Texas Impact. For more information and how you can help visit the website www.texasimpact.com Head of Sufi Order International Dies Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, an internationally known lecturer and author, and head of the Sufi Order International, died on June 17 at his home just outside Paris, France, two days before his 88th birthday. He was recently awarded the Hollister Prize for creating interfaith understanding. The award will be presented on July 10th in Barcelona, at the Parliament of World Religions. Additional information about his life and work can be found at PirVilayat.org, Universel.net, and SufiOrderInternational.org. Immunizations The Texas Department of Health recently announced new rules for school immunization requirements, mandating that students be up-to-date with their immunizations in order to attend school. For the first time, AISD will strictly observe the TDH immunization requirements and will have zero tolerance for vaccine delinquency. Additionally, two new immunizations, Hepatitis B and Varicella (chicken pox), have been added to this year's requirements. The Austin Independent School District anticipates that about 19,000 students will be affected by this new policy. As a result, "Summer Shot Round-Up," a community collaboration consisting of 16 partners will provide access to free or low-cost immunizations during the months of June, July and August. For dates, times, locations and information about Summer Shot Round-Up, call 2-1-1 Texas or log on to www.summershotroundup.com.
