Victoria writes:

We currently live in Boise, Idaho and are very active in the Mennonite
church here. I read about your church and it seems to be a lot like the
church here and we are looking forward to being actively involve in your
congregation. The church here has been a wonderful community and support
system for our family.

I have live in Idaho 42 years, my whole life. My husband is from Denver and
has lived here about 8 years. We were married in the church a year ago. We
both have a hard time in the winter and I get severely depressed. We
decided to move south a couple a months ago and randomly picked Austin
because we liked the energy there. We live mostly by bicycle and Austin
seems to fit that lifestyle.

My husband, Trace, is a very talented and busy handyman. He can fix just
about anything. He gets a lot of customers because he does such great work.
Trace loves carrying all of his handyman gear to jobs by bicycle and thinks
that is a lot of fun. I clean houses and businesses. I have been doing in
for 15 years and have great clients. I currently have been cleaning the
Mennonite church here for 6 years.

We both love what we do and are sure we will be able to get our businesses
going pretty quickly when we get there.

I am excited and terrified to move. I've never lived anywhere else, though
I have traveled a lot. I am writing in hopes of being able to have an
established support system in place before we move.

We are looking for housing. Currently we live in a small trailer house and
we like simple living. Our passion is to be able to find land and build a
tiny house or two. I have a passion for growing food and have a beautiful
garden in the summer months. I also buy several fruit trees every spring
and randomly plant them around the city. I have so much fun hauling them
around with my bike trailer and knocking on doors asking people which tree
they would like me to plant in their yard. I would love to live where I
could garden.

Though we are open to living wherever we can afford to start out
with...which is around $800 a month. We will have a small amount in savings
we can live off of for a few months until we get work. If you come across
anything between now and August that would be good housing please consider
us.

(Lee: I talked with Victoria by phone today and she said they are thinking
of living in an RV until they get more established. They are interested in
finding a place to station their RV.)

I am attaching a picture that we took on a full moon bike ride we went on
last summer that will pretty much sum up who we are. I also have a web site
called crazybananalady.org that tells my story and I write what I am
grateful for every day.

* Pastor Lee’s response:*

*Victoria,*

*Love the family photo! I visited your website and watched the video. I
am glad you found your way to being more healthy. *

*It was good to hear from you and about your plans to move to Austin,
Texas. It seems to be a bustling place these days - computer tech
industry, state capitol, University of Texas, music scene, etc. Rentals
are at a premium. Apartments are being built in many places. There may be
some neighborhoods where you could find a small house to rent that would
give you a little gardening space. My wife and I rent a house near the
church. We should be paying more but we got into it at $1100 a month
because I agreed to do repairs, etc. *

*If sunshine and warmer weather are good medicine, then Austin has both.
As a bonus, it gets downright hot here in the summer months (Jun-Sep).
When we moved here in 2011 Austin had 100 days of over 100 degrees! My
wife and I grew up in the Chicago area and understand winters and cold
weather. We enjoy the very mild winters and the warmer climate here.*

*There is a difference between the Pacific Northwest and Central Texas
geography and culture. Sounds like a big move for you all. I am sure you
know that moving is a stressful thing and I admire your desire to begin
networking even before the move. We have moved here and there during my
pastoral ministry. We actually lived in Eastern Washington State for 8
years and I have been to Boise. Larry Hauder was conference minister for
part of my time in Washington. You could ask him about me.*

*With your permission, I would like to put together your information and
send it out to our email list and see if any connections happen. I cannot
promise anything, but it's worth a try.*

*My prayers are with you as you contemplate a big move.*

*Peace,*
