Sincerely, Garland Robertson ...always hold firmly to the thought that each one of us can do something to bring some portion of misery to an end -----Original Message----- From: boblibal@xxxxxxxxx [mailto:boblibal@xxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Bob Libal Sent: Friday, October 26, 2007 2:35 PM To: blibal@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: T. Don Hutto action items Hi everyone, This is a email update on the campaign for alternatives to the incarceration of immigrant children and their families at the T. Don Hutto detention center in Taylor, Texas. As many of you know, Williamson County has taken up the issue of termination of their contract with Hutto. The commissioners' concerns center around liability, and not the moral injustice of incarcerating children. Nevertheless, we are trying to persuade them to do the right thing and sever the contract with CCA, the private prison company that operates Hutto. Here are some action steps for people concerned by Hutto: Sunday-Tuesday: Hutto Walk III <http://eyeonwilliamson.org/?p=1610> - Attend upcoming walk against detention of children and their families at Hutto. The freedom walk leaves the Hutto detention center on Sunday, October 28 at noon and arrives on October 30th for the Williamson County meeting at 9:30am. For more information on the walk, please contract Jay Johnson-Castro at (830) 734-8636. Tuesday: Williamson <http://texasprisonbidness.org/immigration-detention/t-don-hutto-tuesdays-wi lliamson-county-agenda> County Commissioner's Court meeting <http://texasprisonbidness.org/immigration-detention/t-don-hutto-tuesdays-wi lliamson-county-agenda> - The commissioners will be discussing the Hutto contract at this meeting. The meeting will be held at 301 S.E. Inner Loop in Georgetown at 9:30am on Tuesday, October 30. Please show up early if you can, as the court-room will undoubtedly be full. For information on the Tuesday meeting, please contact Bob Libal at this email address or at (512) 971-0487. Organize a screening of new short film about T. Don Hutto to a community group, student organization, or congregation. The film is an excellent way to start a discussion with a group or congregation. To set up a screening of the film and discussion of Hutto, contact film-maker Matthew Gossage at matthewgossage@xxxxxxxxxxxx Sign and distribute attached faith statement by Texans United for Families calling for more humane alternatives to detention. For more information or extra copies of the faith statement, please email faith@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx For more information on these upcoming events, you can contact me at this address or (512) 971-0487. I've put you on this mailing list because at one point or another you had indicated interest in Hutto. If that's not the case, email me and I'll take you off.
