YOU HAVE TO SING IT TO BELIEVE IT!

On Saturday, September 29 and Sunday September 30,
from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM both days, one of the oldest
American musical forms will come to life at the 107th
meeting of the SOUTHWEST TEXAS SACRED HARP SINGING
CONVENTION to be held at the Sri Atmananda Memorial
School Chapel. A gathering of 100-200 people will be
singing from The Sacred Harp, a collection of songs in
shapenote notation that has been in print continuously
since 1844.
Heard in such films as "Cold Mountain" and "Gangs
of New York," shapenote singing is powerful, four
part, unaccompanied singing with strong roots in the
American rural south. It is joyful, spirited, and
deeply moving, and is one of this country's oldest and
most vital and soul stirring musical traditions. The
Southwest Texas Sacred Harp Convention is a wonderful
opportunity to learn more of what shapenote singing is
really about: great music, great food and great
fellowship.
Listeners, beginners, and people of all ages are
welcome and no experience is necessary. Loaner books
will be provided. Free. Come and go as you please.
For more information visit www.fasola.org or
www.texasfasola.org or call 512.963.6932.

COME SING WITH US!
