After getting all the input for the last couple weeks about how to set up for beanies, I was going to send out an order of 48-being too time consuming to do here. But the other shop is fully booked and can't get to it until after Jan. 2, and I need them by thursday...so I bit down hard and figured I'd give it a shot! I checked with what they wanted for design file, and was surprised when told to just set it up for a regular shirt and run it! After all the problems with other beanies and knit caps-and bad results-trying to get underlayment, background tie down, etc. I was hesitant to try her method... but did. WOW! 3 oz. tearway behind it, 1 layer of solvy on top, and using just the speed frame with only 3" backing coming off a roll (thanks, who ever posted that tip last summer-what a savings in material!) I'm running a beanie every 4 or 5 minutes...not enough time to get rid of excess solvy in between! So all the worrying about creating the extra underlayment, etc. was for nothing. I'm up to about #40, and only 1 stitch break so far...and only changed bobbin twice. The auto setting is the BEST for this! Happy Holidays everyone... these hats, a heavy jacket, and a dozen ball caps tomorrow and I'm DONE... no more orders until after New Year's...I'm taking a break!
