I just wanted to say that although I agree with Barb in her previous post that
the Amaya was designed for mass production embroidery, I think there's another
use for it as well and that is high quality embroidery for one-of-a-kind
designs in home decor and clothing as well as caps, logo apparel, etc. I do all
of the above and as much as I also love the Viking domestic machines, they
cannot produce a huge design without babysitting the sewout and some could
literally take hours to complete. I think Melco targets both markets of
embroidery.
Another note is this . . . embroidery is not a new trend. It's been around
since clothing. Somewhere along the timeline, someone decided that embroidery
could be done cheaply and now some embroiderers are sacrificing quality for
quantity and some are even going overseas to get the cheapest price just so
they can stay in business. That's unfortunate since embroidery represents
success and status and celebration of newborns, the passing of loved ones, war
veterans and heroes, royalty, weddings, cultural textile art, and milestones.
Embroidery is supposed to be beautiful and cherished, not slapped onto a
tee-shirt or hat and sold on some boardwalk or casino for a couple of bucks but
somehow it's being done as cheap promotional gimmicks.
I would like to see embroidery kept specialized and artful, and not down the
route of dollar store bargain bins. Celebrate it and if someone wants
promotional and less expensive advertising on their clothing, direct them to a
garment printer whose purpose is more appropriate and the pricing is within
those guidelines and end-use. I love quality embroidery and my passion is
strong for the art and history of it. I would just like to bring appreciation
back for the art of stitchery.
As an accomplished hand embroiderer as well as machine embroiderer, some of
these designs would take months to complete by hand. I LOVE the ability to use
a high quality machine to create high quality customized embroidery pieces.
Anyone else feel this way?

Gee, all those Brother subjects are intended for the home sewing/embroidery
machines. I have two Viking emb machines and also teach for my Viking dealer.
I love projects. But that's not what my Amaya is all about. It's a business
machine, a production machine. I can do very creative things with it, but it
wasn't designed for onesie kinds of applications. Personally, I don't want
Melco hiring a bunch of people to design projects. More people mean higher
product cost. This list is the best support you could hope for.
Just my humble opinion.

WHY CAN'T MELCO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS? I suggested this 5 years ago when I
took my training. I would love to learn a new technique each month or see what
their special of the month is.
