As to the rattling... it's hard to say w/o hearing it, but when the thumb
screws that hold the hoop arms to the machine wore out on mine, they would
loosen up after the machine had been sewing for a while and the hoop would
rattle a bit. I also experienced wanky stitches when this happened so maybe
that's not your problem, but it's worth checking to make sure your screws are
tight.
