Yo Mud,

Is the thread being cut when you hear this noise? Is the thread being slingshot
back up through the eyelets when this happens?

It is doubtful that the grabber is contacting the needles. The grabber is
probably contacting an uncut top thread that is a result of a miss-trim and the
grabber is trying to stuff a taut thread back into the grabber trap which gets
tight enough to cause the grabber to go into a stall protection mode. It will
then growl and chatter.

Time to call Melco to document possible trimmer issues and/or let them talk you
through the fixes.....
