Cindy,

It may depend on the version and level of software you have but under 
lettering properties in the Column tab just under where you set your density 
and above the column width adjustment is a box you can check called 
"Auto-Split" and under that are a few settings, default is 70 and 8 I think 
but I like to change the 70 to 60.

If you don't have this option let me know the font, size and name you are 
sewing and I can send you a design file.
