The only time I’ve ever had a problem with adhesive backing is with those stupid vinyl bags, and that problem is the pocket being too small. Maybe you aren’t using the right sticky backing or you can try the hydrostik, which I prefer, but it doesn’t offer as easy of multiple hooping as do the sticky paper. I’ve never lost a hat (boy do I hate to risk my machines wrath by saying THAT) by having the paper release. Of course, I am talking about hat backs, I use the WACF for the fronts. I don’t even use backing on the structured hats fronts anymore. The adhesive backing just won't hold anything in place-and with the curve of the hat material I can't see even clamps holding that tight down! How do you do it? I hooped up a canvas hat this week in the 4" hoop and it looks like it might work-keeps it flat and stable. Fastframe just won't hold it down-the hat pops right off. At the training last fall all John has are the WACF which came with our machines. For the hats he demos on-they work great-but those are full structured high profile. Once we came home and customers wanted low profile unstructured-everything went sour. I sent off an order for 100 to have Dick do up in Vermont-he did it on his 12 head Barrudan even though he has 10 Amayas-said they just don't do the job on that type of hat! Melco has improved the WACF from the ones that I recieved with our machines and I really haven't had the oportunity to give them a good try....probably because I don't have any of them.......I do prefer, same as Aaron, the older CCF/WACF for most caps and do most of my side work an/or cap backs on fast frames.... I just set most hats up at 3" on the arc and let em go. Never had any complaints and I do hat backs on 80% of my hats. As far as the cap frames we use WACF on our 2 head tajima and they work great. We use the conventional frames on our Melco's cause they are faster to hoop and seem to sew better on taller designs. Maybe I am naive to what the problems are but I am really curious about what several of you are encountering. Here is the scoop. When I purchased my Amayas I did not like the WACF hat frames............but determined myself to get use to them. I embroider all my hats with them AND the hat backs. The only issues that seem to come up is when doing the hat back I watch to see that the bill of the hat is not hitting on the AMAYA table and throw registration off. Also, in order to get the right curve for the hat back (for the traditional style w/ opening in the back).......I digitize on screen (usually lettering).....give it my best "eyeball judgement of a curve"..........print out a paper copy.......cut it out........check the curve on the hat........make adjustments.......print out a paper copy again. Most of the time I get it on the second try. I also determined myself not to use any thing that has the word "sticky back" in it. TEE HEE! I actually have come to like the WACP hat frames.
