Debbie, I have probably a similar deal coming up...just did a couple
shirts and vest for a local dog trainer, and happened to find her exact
dog in the Dakota collection in the computer. Changed the colors to
  match
hers, and she loves it. Showed it to a dog group she knows, and they
  asked
her to get prices from me for THEIR group...with a French Bulldog (huh?)
and not just the 'head', the whole dog. I told her she can't quote
  prices to them-
THEY have to come see me-and if the dog they want isn't in the book-
  they will
have to settle for something else close, OR pay the digitizing fee to
  get it-because
I don't have the artistic ability to do something that fussy. I think
  there was a similar
chat here last year-either some fancy cat, cow or sheep or horse-I
  can't remember-but
the people that HAVE these animals can't be fooled.
But our job is to make them realize that it COST $$ to get CUSTOM
  digitizing.
Out of a book (collection) is one thing-total custom is going to cost
  them!
That's the difference between 'off the shelf' and 'individual' designs.
If they can't afford to pay for the custom digitizing, then they will
  have to settle for
what you can get. I know that we all get this type of customer-they
  'assume' we can
do photoreproduction work in embroidery, or 1 color screenprint (yes,
  I've had those idiots!)
so you have an education process for them.
Have to make them realize that it takes time=money to get what they
  want!

And then there's always the client that wants just ONE custom
  shirt...and can't figure out
why he should have to pay $50-100 digitizing to get it!

And my gripe for the day...I wish I did business with gas
  companies...I'd be jacking
up THEIR prices twice a day...even after quoting a price!
I'd LOVE to delivery a load of shirts to an oil company...and raise
  the price as
  I'm walking through the door!

  Roland
