That's another thing that tipped me off to this being strange--no puppies. If the woman is not breeding, she's not doing this for her own gain. If she is over her head with trying to save animals, she needs assistance. If she is a hoarder, she is sick, not a criminal, and still needs help. More than anything, I am alarmed that HSUS is doing anything like this in our state. Maybe I was unaware at the time, but in past seizrues in Alabama, weren't they carried out by responsible rescue groups and law enforecment and not by HSUS? Well said, Ivy - especially since there were NO puppies nor kittens found. There is more to this "story" than we are actually seeing. Our culture lives for the negative - I'm proud of you for speaking out. Why am I skeptical of what is really going on here.? 1. HSUS is spearheading the “rescue”. 2. Many of the dogs in the video look fat and happy. 3. While there are some underweight animals, it is possible that they were recently taken in. 4. The woman has 22 acres? Is this correct? If so, it is certainly enough acerage that if her property is fenced, the dogs could roam and not live in contaminated conditions. 5. I agree that chaining is NOT a good thing, but when the choice is for a dog to roam the countryside homeless without daily food or shelter or to live chained because the dog is not properly socialized and can not get along with other dogs….. Truly, it IS a shame when people start out with good intentions and don’t know when to stop. However, if the woman is even half way taking care of these homeless animals, what she needs is help, not contempt, and certainly not criminal charges. Maybe this situation is exactly as HSUS presents it. Maybe I’m just in a charitable mood this morning and wanting to give the woman the benefit of the doubt. Whichever—I just can not whole heartedly support criminal charges brought about as a result of HSUS judgement of the conditions if these homeless animals are being fed daily and taken to a vet when they are sick. So, now it's grown from 150 to 200 animals. It is a real shame when people who start out meaning well don't use any common sense at all as to when to STOP.
