[access-uk] xml file extention

Hi all -

I notice when exporting my library from Itunes, to save as a back-up, it gets 
given an xml file extension, by default, and this can't be changed. I've not 
worked with this extension before, can anybody tell me what an xml file 
actually is, is it the same as an m3u playlist for example? -
