Hi,

The thing is with a lot of Internet caffes etc they are using software
to do the policy work for them which is not making all the necessary
settings, or the settings are too restrictive thus they get complaints
from other clients such as they are unable to save work etc. I have a
friend who runs such a setup, so have had some dealings with the kit
involved when I helped her out.

Certainly though the Jaws and Dolphin pre-requisites are to put it
mildly, pushing it!

Andrew.

Quite agree James, Freedom Box is by quite a long way the best portable
screen reader solution being offered. But Doug Geoffray of GW Micro has
always stressed that exspecting to go up to any computer in a public
place and gett access with one of these devices is rather fanciful, to
put it mildly. Few, if any system administrators are going to allow the
public to walk up to a computer and plug in a USB device.

It has been pointed out to me privately that using very advanced
settings under Windows Policy editor, one could restrict such access to
one secure profile only and maybe allow only certain programs to run
undr that profile from an external device. Even here though, I'd like
to bet some smart Alek would get to know of this and reap havvoc with
library and other computers armed with the right knowledge.

Bottom line, don't believe admen bearing gifts and tempting promises
like this. It ain't gunna be possible in most circumstances for this
dream to come true.

| well at least you've got a better chance with the Freedom Box than you
have
| with JAWS for thumb drives - where you can use it on any computer that
has
| JAWS Video intercept installed and JAWS authorisation as well, oh and
the
| Dongle system driver as well. I don't know about USB ports on
publicly
| available computers, I don't use them, but if what you say is true
then a
| lot of people are in for a severe disappointment. Still, system
Access
| beats any of the other budget alternatives.
