[access-uk] talking thermostat? such a thing?

hi all, the control panel for the central heating system in our new house is
an upto the minute nasty digital contraption, totally inaccessible! is there
such a thing as a talking thermostat or similar we could replace this nasty
control panel with so we can use such functions as the clock, timer etc for
the heating?
