Hi Steve,

Part of the problem is Windows XP itself. It uses WDM drivers, which are
quite frankly crap anyway, and so do a lot of manufacturers, such as
Creative. If any one can find non-WDM drivers for Creative cards on Windows
XP, I would be the first to download them. The Creative cards worked much
better in Windows 98 SE, than they do in XP. I believe the last driver
update, for example, to the Soundblaster Live Platinum, was done in 2003,
which is disgraceful. This is why I am looking for a new manufacturer of
sound cards, who keeps their drivers current. Do M-Audio do this, does
anyone know? I wouldn't even mind paying more, provided the manufacturers
supported their cards, at least for a couple of years. Creative's support
is about diddly squat.

I have to agree with Steve Nutt that the creative drivers for XP are very
poor., even including the audigy.

When I changed from win 98 SE to XP my extigy USB box developed a stutter
which couldn't be cured by the latest driver because once again creative had

stopped developing them.

So I bought an audigy 2 USB box and used the win XP drivers. Unfortunately
my computer started rebooting at odd intervals and I was forced to use the
bloatware creative ship with their products. I also had to have professional

help to install the software as the initial screen on the installation disc

is completely graphical and is invisible to jaws. I then upgraded the
drivers twice with different updates from their website and was left with a
sound system that was exactly the same as the old extigy box.

Finally I scrapped the USB route and used my motherboard's native sound
output which is slightly les high fidelity, but doesn't stutter.

So my advice is steer clear of creative products, they have gone to pot
since the old Soundblaster days. Use the on board sound or some other card -

anything but creative.

Hi Barry,

No, the Audigy 1 and 2 are named, because the 2 is newer, simple as that.
You can get Audigy 1 and 2 Platinums, and all kinds. I would go for the 2
if I were you. I have the Audigy 1 at the moment, and the XP sound drivers
in my view are rubbish. The latency is very high when using Midi, and the
WDM part of the XP drivers doesn't work very well at all, so multichannel
operations are a waste of time. Also, I believe the 1 drivers haven't been
updated since 2003, as Creative no longer make the card. This is what I
don't like about Creative, as soon as they stop making the card, they stop
developing the drivers, so any bugs that are still there, never get fixed.

I personally am going to get away from Creative sound cards altogether very
soon, I think. Just do a Google search for sound card reviews, and you will
also see that a lot of people say that Creative's drivers leave a lot to be
desired.

Hey guys.

if I do need to buy a new card and go for the audidgy shoudl i get version 1
or 2?

I'm looking on ebay at brand new ones and see verrsion 1 and 2.

Is this like the sound blaster and sound blaster platinum's where one was
just a PCI and the other also had remote controls and front jacks that took
up a bay on the front of your machine?
