Hi Adrian,

Cost of research and development and the fact that blind people can only be a
small market. That was the problem that Pure came up against when trying to
sell Sonus 1XT with talking menus. The solution would be to design mainstream
hardware so that it would be suitable for blind and partially-sighted people to
use, incorporating speech into it as part of the package. That's why Apple is
finding so much favour with V I people. Time and again we find that an item,
such as a caller display is under 20 quid in the high street, but more than
four times the price if we look for one that we can use. And the technology to
include speech isn't rocket science any more.

Best,
Clive

Hi

Yes but on another note, why do they have to be so expensive in the first
place, isn't it supply and demand?

Hi, yes I think all companies should offer something like the easy pay like
RNIB offer. I do think that something should be done about this. It would make
products more affordable and allow more of us to buy some of these products
that we may find useful in our personal lives.
