Hi George
You are fine to suggest I might being confused. I am trying to find out how much space is being used on the hard drive/how much is left. Will try what you suggest.

Hi Mark,

Dare I suggest you are confusing "memory" with "storage". Storage as it the amount of information and data you have on your hard drive.

To find out how much space is being used, double click on My Computer, which will then display the disk drives in use. Usually there will be at least a C:\ drive and a D:\ drive, the latter being your cd or DVD. Sometimes there may be additional drives for such things as recovery, in which case you may find the CD/DVD has a higher letter.

Right click on the actual drives and select Properties, which should tell you the total capacity, space used, and free space. This will give you some indication of how much your current system uses.

However, bear in mind that newer operating systems can take up more space,

George.

Hi
I am using a laptop with vista. Can someone tell me how to find out how much space I am using? I am considering a new laptop and am needing to work out how much space I need.
thanks
