Simon, have you tried plugging in the power lead and holding down the start
button with the eject button at the same time? If this doesn't work, ring the
RNIB in the morning and if it can be fixed they will talk you through what to
do. If it is dead they will replace the machine. You can order another copy
of the book on the phone.

Cheers

looks like a non starter anyway, as the cd drive unit in the machine appears to
be sealed, with no way in to it, with out actually smashing it open, which
would probably wreck the disk in the process.

He may not have to resort to such drastic measures.

Simon, strip it, that would be Ian's solution trust me (smile).

He would have every screw and component lined up in a neat order on the
carpet, kneeling down in a corner as he did it. Then he would come through to
me and say: "Here you go, that's your talking book." Then he would kneel again
and put it all back together. I must say I've always marvelled at his ability
to do that sort of work without sighted assistance.

Go for it. If it's blown up, you've nothing to lose anyway (smile).

    Good luck.

    Jackie

      hello list,
does anyone know, if there is a way of getting a talking book out of a
dead talking book machine?
mine seems to have blown up, and it just had to have a book I really
wanted to listen to in it, but because the eject is powered, it won't work, and
I can't get the book out in the normal way.
