You should be able to get this info by typing dxdiag into the run line and

Hi list members, I have downloaded a MP 3 Player that requires the
directx program File to be version 6 or higher,have looked in it's
properties to verify my version,but only gives it's size. As the file is
around 500 Megs I dont want to download a new version if not required. I
would appreciate if somebody could direct me to where I may find the
version of Directx currently on my Win 98 Machine!.Thankyou.AlanPollard
